About Us

Inner State is based in Lancaster and was set up in 1992 as a result of Andy and Christine working together for Age Exchange Theatre in Blackheath, London.

They recognised each other as kindred spirits playing Tommy Handley and Mrs Mop in a Wartime ITMA sketch and have fought and laughed together ever since.

The Inner State style arose mainly through scripts never being quite ready in time so a level of 'ad libbing' had to go into each production. Even the performers are sometimes confused as to how much is actually part of the script!

Accidental though this may have been, it means that the two performers have developed a great skill in including their audiences in the action in a very real sense.

Both Andy and Christine are accomplished musicians and have been known to sing in tune in between the arguments ... and Andy tuning his banjo.

Their repertoire of songs covers all sorts of styles and periods because if one of them likes a song it gets included. Heavily influenced by the likes of Spike Jones and Bonzo Dog Band they, of course, include lots of silly songs.
