Touring Shows

Designed for fairly intimate venues such as village halls, community centres and smaller arts centres. They have toured extensively for the National Rural Touring Forum in many different regions.

Andy and Christine have learnt a great knack of talking to their audiences and really include them in the action. This comes from years surviving as street performers. Consequently they appear to be so relaxed, frequently ad libbing with the audience, that some people really believe they make it up as they go along.

They are also accomplished musicians so all their theatre shows include a goodly smattering of songs.

" ... I felt that I'd stepped back in time in more ways than one."

"... a double act who wouldn't have been out of place in the variety halls of yesteryear."

Louise Bryning, Lancaster Guardian reviewing "The Hound of the Baskervilles"

Musical Shows

These shows can be done as a full evening's entertainment or as shorter pieces for all sorts of occasions.

WINTER SUNSHINE
A selection box of songs and theatrical nonsense to warm you up on a cold winter night. A 'retro' performance that brings a sense of the old variety shows with a modern twist. Audience participation as always.

SEASIDE SUNSHINE
A picnic of songs, sandwiched between a bit of theatre and a lot of silliness for those balmy summer evenings. Very similar to Winter Sunshine, but in skimpier costumes and including the
Great Deck Chair Challenge.

Work in progress

Andy is working on a new show for Autumn 2010 based loosely around H.G.Wells story “The War of the Worlds”, except that the alien invasion seems to have something to do with rock n’ roll !!

Christine is poised over the sewing machine awaiting instructions. More details as the script unfolds.

PAST TOURS

DRACULA
It’s twenty five years since the vampire was vanquished. The original story told in flashback by Jonathan and Mina Harker, when they realise that the dreaded vampire has returned.

The usual Inner State mix of over-acting, interspersed with music, story telling and help from the audience, plus some surprising developments at the end.

We loved it all - the music, the drama, the slapstick, the melodrama, the corny gags, the backchat, the set, the costumes, everything. We had quite forgotten how precious live entertainment is ! And it couldn't get more precious ...
(David & Catherine Spalding after the final performance of Dracula for the Summer Programme at University of Lancaster.)

THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES (1998 - 2000)
" ... a truly terrible telling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's chilling Gothic tale".
(Inner State)

Inner State's first full length theatre show which established it's chaotic style, audience participation and the odd song thrown in for good measure. Had great success playing to over 50 venues around the country.

ALL AT SEA (2000 - 2001)
" ... a magnificent tour de force ... either that or barking mad!"
(Ingham & Cammeringham Village Hall)

The Spanish Armada and The Battle of Trafalgar attempted in one evening. Fortunately there was an interval of 217 years between the two so the audience and the actors could have a drink and regroup.

THE MAGNIFICENT TWO (2001-2002)
" ... an uproarious evening of spoof Western interlaced with music-hall type humour and audience backchat." (Mepal Village Hall)

Jack Silver and Belle Chance attempted to put the town of Deadloss back on track before the jokes got so bad that the audience formed a lynch mob. The action took place in the Last Chance Saloon with the help of a lot of whiskey and a terrible script. What script?
